Chido Mpemba

Chido Mpemba serves as the youngest diplomat and senior official in the African Union Chairperson’s Cabinet, where she leads on youth affairs, representing the voices of over 870 million youth across the 55 member states of Africa.

Chido is responsible for policy advocacy, working closely with governments, multilateral institutions, the public and private sectors, and youth on socio-economic development initiatives. She has contributed to the development of foreign policy,whilst working with governments in reshaping their Africa relations policies , including for Germany , Austria & Norway.


A highly sought-after global moderator, Chido has moderated sessions for the United Nations Special Advisor on Africa and the President of the United Nations General Assembly. As a young thought leader, she has published opinion pieces with the World Economic Forum, London School of Economics, and Google. She has been featured in META’s “Africa’s Rising Stars” series and BBC’s “Focus on Africa” documentary and podcast.

Chido pioneered the #ICanSurvive Mental Health Toolkit, addressing five emerging issues affecting young people in Africa. In addition she contributed to the development of the first ever Climate Governance Report.

As a climate change advocate, she has planted 1,000 fruit trees to date, educating young people on climate change while promoting food security in marginalized communities.



Works

Passionate about digital transformation in Africa, Chido launched the “Make Africa Digital” (M.A.D) campaign, providing digital literacy training to over 4,000 young people across six countries.

– Member of the European Union Advisory Committee for the Global Gateway Africa Migration Initiative

– Member of the United Nations Advisory Committee for the Landlocked Developing Countries (LDCs)

– Member of the UNICEF Generation Unlimited Global Leadership Council (GLC)

– Member of the G20 Engagement Group

– Board Trustee for the Old Mutual Youth Fund

– Commissioner for the Climate Governance Commission chaired by former President of Ireland, Mary Robinson

– Commissioner & Co-Chair with Vivek Murthy at the World Health Organization (WHO) Commission on Social Connection
